by Talia Hibbert
In this sweet romance, hard-working academic Danika Brown falls for her work friend, brooding security guard Zafir Ansari, through the circuitous route of fake dating. When a video of Zaf rescuing Dani from a stuck elevator goes viral, and the internet starts seriously shipping them, they decide to keep up the appearance of a relationship in order to capitalize on the publicity for the charity Zaf runs in his spare time. Of course, what starts out as fake soon becomes real.
As an academic librarian married to a very introverted security guard, I related to this romance so very much. Zaf is brooding and a bit grumpy on the outside but is very sweet, kind, and caring on the inside. He's also a bit of a romantic. Dani is extremely hard-working, and due to a string of bad relationships, is convinced that she is only meant for casual flings, not true love. Her awakening to her true feelings was slightly exasperating, but also very satisfying. I really liked how their relationship was rooted in a well-established friendship. Zaf is very sweet and caring towards Dani, which is something she very much needs in her life. The kindness and care combined with searing passion was awesome.
