Someone to Romance
by Mary Balogh

In this seventh novel in the Westcott series, we see the love story of Lady Jessica Archer, the half-sister of the hero from the first book. At 25 and having seen her beloved cousin Abby settled into a happy marriage, Jessica finally decides to seek a husband herself. Gabriel Thorne has just returned from America and enriched by his business ventures, has returned to England to come to the aid of his disabled aunt. After a chance meeting with Jessica he decides to marry her and on their next encounter tells her so. Luckily, Jessica finds him appealing and does not dismiss him out of hand. Instead, she asks him to romance her. Gabriel takes up the challenge, and Jessica learns who he really is, setting them on course to their happily ever after.
I very much enjoyed this one. The courtship between Jessica and Gabriel is sweet and subtle with an undercurrent of passion. In addition, there is a strong intrigue plot involving Gabriel's true identity and the crimes of the villain of the novel. Balogh does a good job of spinning out this part of the story and it's fun to watch the Westcott family rally around Gabriel. Jessica and Gabriel both have strong wills and personalities and I liked watching how they came to understand and love each other.
