This is the sequel to Trail of Lightning and it's even better. This time Maggie, along with her friends Kai and Rissa, must take on the White Locust, a mysterious cult leader, and try to foil his plot to trigger another apocalypse. The plot was very exciting and had some cool twists and turns. The different elements all hung together really well, and there were some terrific action sequences. Maggie grows and changes, and I liked the way both the story and her character development explored how traumatized people living in tough circumstances can open themselves up to friendship and emotional bonds. It was also great to explore the setting more, and find out what things are like outside of Dinetah. I hope there will be more in the series.
