Spellmaker is the sequel to Spellbreaker and picks where its predecessor left off. Now that Elsie and Bacchus have discovered who is behind the magical murders, they must work to track down the murderer and unravel the plot behind the crimes. As they are doing this, Elsie and Bacchus must also navigate their growing feelings for each other.
This book is more of a romantic thriller than a mystery, and the plot and pacing worked better. The world-building and characters remain great, and I found the ending quite satisfying. My only criticism is that the issues of class and inequality that recurred throughout the two books were never really explored, and even a little bit dismissed at the end. Still, this was an entertaining read.
