The Cambridge Companion to the Singer-Songwriter
edited by Katherine Williams, Katy Hamilton, Justin A. Williams

This Cambridge Companion was pretty interesting, even the chapters about artists I don't particularly like. Most of the chapters were short and zeroed in on a fairly narrow topic, which allowed the volume to cover a lot of ground. There were very interesting chapters on the history and development of the modern singer-songwriter, and lots of great material on persona and relationship with the audience. I also liked the attention given to issues of gender and sexuality, but felt that race was not sufficiently discussed.
