This is the sequel to Generation Loss, and it is even better. Shortly after the events of the first book, Cass receives a photo from an old lover and a strange job offer to go to Helsinki to appraise a series of photos by a brilliant Finnish photographer on behalf of a potential buyer. The unusual nature of the photos and a series of gruesome murders plunges Cass into the midst of a mystery wrapped up in Norse myth, Scandinavian black metal, and dark pasts.
I found Available Dark extremely fascinating, given my relatively newfound taste for black metal and longstanding interest in myth and folklore. The narrative has a rather slow build, but once things start coming to a head, it's quite the ride. The characters were wonderful, especially Ilkka the photographer, and Galdur, the reclusive guitarist. And I really wish I could see those photos.
