This short book examines Thomas Tallis' music, concentrating on the compositional techniques and features but also exploring how the music fit into and reflected the religious vicissitudes of the Tudor era. The analyses and commentaries are solid and interesting, but I was sometimes struck by the way the author often sounded as if he wasn't necessarily much of a fan of Tallis.
