Castle in the Air
by Diana Wynne Jones

This is sequel to Howl's Moving Castle, although the main characters from the first book do not make a real appearance until near the end. Castle in the Air instead starts out in a land far from Ingary, and centers on Abdullah, a young carpet merchant who is given to concocting elaborate and adventure-laden daydreams while minding his booth in the bazaar of Zanzib. When he buys a magic carpet from a stranger, Abdullah finds his daydreams starting to come true and his life suddenly full of adventure.
This book was not as good as its predecessor, but it was a lot of fun, nonetheless. It's an inventive Arabian Nights style tale, complete with djinn, a flying carpet, a wish-granting genie, a clever and beautiful princess, and a daring rescue plan. While Howl's kind of skirted around its own narrative, Castle in the Air drives straight at it, making for a very different, but still highly enjoyable reading experience.
