It's now official

I gave notice today at work. It went fine - my boss expressed her regrets at losing me, but also congratulated me on such a well-fitting job. I told a few other people as well, and there were hugs and congratulations all around. I haven't yet made wider announcements - I'm waiting a bit to see what the official channels do. My boss and I are meeting on Thursday to discuss how best to wrap things up before I leave, and to work out a schedule of vacation days (I plan to take several, mostly Fridays and Mondays before I start at Berklee). I hope I get a really nice send-off - I have been there nearly 9 years, after all.
I feel so much better now. I no longer have to tell lies about absences, or sneak phone interviews in during the day, or pretend that I can be involved in future projects and take on new duties. Work is no longer a depressing place, because I don't have to think or worry about my future there any more. All I need to worry about from now until July 21 is getting stuff wrapped up and cleaned up so as to leave as little mess as possible behind me and as few people in the lurch as I possibly can.
I cancelled the interview I was supposed to have at BU on Friday, which now makes that day a true vacation day. If anyone else in the general area is free that day and would like to get together, you can comment here or send me an e-mail. I'll also post about other vacation days that I'll be available.

I'm so glad that your office was cool about the whole thing. Really, an employer can't argue when an employee finds their perfect fit in another business. Best of luck with the transition and I hope it's smooth for all involved!
