What is it with the B line this month? This time, a train derailed, hit a utility pole, dislodged some electrical lines and boxes, and caught fire. All this happened at about 1:30 am, just a couple of blocks (one stop down) from my building. Nobody was injured. Luckily, this time, I wasn't right there for any of the excitement. The only immediate effect I experienced was waking up around 2am to smell a horrible burning plastic odor which was coming in through the air conditioning vents. I got up and checked various things to make sure none of our appliances or other electronic gear had caught on fire, and then verified that the smell was coming from the outside by briefly cracking a window. The stink lasted for quite a while and kept me awake for a bit. And by this morning, the MBTA had still not cleared stuff up - the burnt train car was still there along with a bunch of maintenance vehicles and a ton of T police and other workers. So I walked to a nearby D line stop to get in to work.

What was the green line doing even running at 1:30 am? I thought it stopped at 12:30.

That's upsetting. Our Metro stop had a big accident a couple of years ago when a train unexpectedly backed into the station while another train was on the platform. The two trains accordioned - some injuries, no deaths. But the trains stayed on the track for a couple of days before they moved them, which was pretty creepy.

I think the last outbound B train leaves Park a little after 12:30, and it's quite a ways down to the end of the B line.

Geez! One thing after another! I hope that's the end of the B Line disasters for a while.
