Oscar Observations
Random thoughts after watching the Oscars last night:
Sting played a hurdy-gurdy during the performance of "My Ain True Love" from Cold Mountain. I that may be the first time I've ever seen one played. Actually, it was a good night for music geeks, considering that the other song from Cold Mountain included a sacred harp choir, and "Belleville Rendezvous" featured a bicycle played as a percussion instrument.
Peter Jackson I think gets the prize for sweetest comment regarding what to do with the actual statues. He said he would put them in his kids' bedrooms, because they have had to deal with their parents working on the Lord of the Rings for their entire lives (the kids are 7 and 8). Awwww.
Apparently, the one person Keisha Castle-Hughes wanted to meet was Johnny Depp. Good choice!
Bill Murray referred to Sofia Coppola as a girl. She's thirty-two! She's made two movies! Her film was nominated for several Oscars, and won one! I think that was a little condescending of him.

Yes! I ranted about this a bit too, when I heard it. Not only all of that, but she was his director. Yeah, she's a lot younger than he is, but when she is your director you call her a woman. Grr.
And didn't 'Belleville Rendezvous' rock? Have you seen the movie yet? There's some wonderful music with unconventional instruments in it...

And yay! It was such a great movie. I liked Finding Nemo, and was OK that it won, but I thought that Triplets of Belleville was much more creative. I loved the way it played with music, and made musical instruments out of everything.
