Busy, Busy, Busy
Jan. 27th, 2008 10:57 pmI have suddenly become insanely busy. It's all in very good ways, but wow, is there a lot of stuff to pack in.
First, there is lots of socializing. This past Tuesday I had dinner with
rather_amoosing and
dragonfeesh. It was great to have a leisurely dinner with friends in the middle of the week, and I got to introduce them to my favorite Indian restaurant, Rangoli (on Brighton Ave.). Then on Thursday I met
hai_kah_uhk. We ate and spent a long time talking. I'm so glad to have finally met her in person. On Saturday I went tea shopping and tea drinking with
sylphae_minuo, which was also a fun time. There are plenty more parties and get-togethers planned for February, too.
This month and the first half of February have a lot of concert-going on the calendar. Just this past week I went to three (two of them will be addressed in later posts) performances. This is the centennial year of Olivier Messaien's birth, so there are plenty of upcoming performances of his works, mostly at NEC. I'm especially looking forward to Quartet for the End of Time on Feb. 8.
My musical plate is looking pretty full, too.
pantsie and I are still working together, with another recital in our future. Plus, my slate of composition projects has just increased to four. And I'm sending my works out to every competition and call for scores that I possibly can.
And now I have a bunch of pesky administrative errands to run because my wallet was stolen on Saturday - probably pick-pocketed on the T or at Copley station. I only had about $30 or so in cash in it, so I'm not out much money. The credit and ATM cards were used, but the purchases tripped the fraud detection systems, and I called the banks right away. The cards are cancelled, and I am not liable for the charges. So no real harm done; there's only the aggravation of having to replace my license, cards, etc. The thieves were pretty lame, too. They stole my credit cards at Copley, with easy access to a Best Buy, two swanky shopping malls, and all the posh boutiques on Newbury Street. But what did they use my cards for? $20 worth of T fares, a coke from a vending machine, a phone call, and $41 of stuff at a 7-11. That's not what I was expecting to be told when I spoke to my bank and credit card company. I thought it would be a couple hundred bucks of electronics from Best Buy or expensive clothing from a trendy store. I'll keep an eye on my credit record, but I don't think there's going to be any further fallout. At least I had a fun afternoon out and when I got home, I found my BPAL package waiting for me.
