Caressed by Ice
by Nalini Singh

This is the third of the Psy-Changeling paranormal romances. Brenna Kincaid, wolf shifter and survivor of a sadistic serial killer, becomes drawn to Judd Lauren, an icy Psy who used to be a black-ops soldier-assassin for the Psy council before his defection to the SnowDancer wolf pack. The attraction is strong and mutual, no matter how much Judd tries to fight it, knowing that his very strong powers could pose a threat to Brenna and the pack if he cannot figure out how to subvert the emotional repression of his training without losing control.
I enjoyed this romance, but not as much as the previous two books in the series. Judd and Brenna have both experienced a lot of darkness and pain in their lives that they must come to terms with and heal from. It's already a lot, plus there is a background plot around another killer targeting the wolves. I felt that there was a little too much going on and not enough space for the development of Judd and Brenna's relationship to really breathe. Nonetheless, Singh does a good job with writing about people dealing with traumatic pasts, and of making their love a source of healing without making it a magical solution to their problems.
