This is the the 7th in the Palace of Rogues historical romances, and the series shows no signs of slowing down. Catherine Keating is the daughter of a country doctor in London for her first and likely only season. The scandalous Lord Kirke's London townhouse has sustained serious fire damage. Both of them end up staying at the Grand Palace on the Thames and thus strike up something of a friendship. This friendship quickly turns into something more but the hurdles of class differences and an incipient scandal must be overcome before they can be together.
I very much enjoyed this book. Catherine is fairly innocent and lacks experience due to her country upbringing, but she is smart and nobody's fool. Lord Kirke is a brooding hero who strives to do right and is utterly undone by his feelings for Catherine. Their relationship is a bit of a slow burn, and their witty banter is utterly delightful. I love the way they both grow and discover things about themselves, and how warm and devoted their love is.
