by Sue Lynn Tan
This is the sequel to Daughter of the Moon Goddess. Now that Xingyin has secured her mother's freedom, she attempts to settle into a peaceful life with her mother and to resolve the conflicts in her heart regarding Liwei and Wenzhi. However, a mysterious magic emerges on the moon, the balance of power shifts in the Celestial Kingdom, and Xingyin, her family, and her friends, must confront a new and terrible threat to the Immortal Realm. As they seek the means to defeat the new threat, alliances shift and they discover that the price of victory may be very high.
Heart of the Sun Warrior both resolves the lingering plot threads of it predecessor and introduces new problems to resolve in a satisfying way. The smaller quests that were part of the larger plot were all quite interesting and required clever if risky solutions. There was plenty of good action that engaged both the prowess and emotions of the characters. I especially liked the way the love triangle resolved, and the acknowledgement that there is more to a successful relationship that just emotion and desire.
