by Alyssa Cole
This romance novella is a kind of sequel or companion to A Duke by Default, so it's best to have read that one first. In Can't Escape Love, Reggie, twin sister of the other book's heroine Portia, finally meets one of her favorite video streamers, Gustave Nguyen. They initially form something of a business arrangement where he will provide Reggie with some content to help her sleep, and she will help him with the escape room he is designing, as it is based on her favorite anime series. However, their attraction to each other develops into more.
This was a sweet and warm romance. I liked both Reggie and Gus and how their relationship developed so naturally. They also were very respectful of each other's needs and lives. I liked the way Cole treated Reggie's disability and Gus' neurodivergence - as important aspects of their lives, but not as the focus of the story or an obstacle to overcome. In addition, Cole handles the twin relationship really well.
