by Theodora Goss
The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl is the third and final book in the Athena Club series. This time Alice, the club's kitchen maid, is kidnapped and Sherlock Holmes goes missing. In the process of attempting to find and rescue both Alice and Holmes, the Club stumbles on a nefarious plot to overthrow the Queen and take over Britain. It is as delightful as the first two books.
I love spending time with the characters an watching them and their relationships develop. The Athena Club is a very well-balanced adventuring party, both in terms of abilities and temperament. The plot is as engaging as always, and provides opportunity for delicious inversions of a couple of heavily gendered tropes.
