Sweelinck
by Frits Noske

This brief book covers the late Renaissance Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, who chiefly composed vocal and keyboard music. While Noske ably covers the subject matter and provides useful and easy to follow analyses of Sweelinck's music, the prose is a bit dry and at times assumes the reader is already familiar with the extant literature on the composer. I found this book useful, since I am learning to play some of Sweelinck's organ music, but it was not necessarily the most pleasurable of reads.
