This is the third of the Parasol Protectorate series. This book follows on closely after the events of Changeless. Alexia is back in the family home when the scandal of her pregnancy and her husband's ridiculous accusations of infidelity become public. Alexia thus takes herself off to France and Italy, along with the inventor and mad scientist Madame Lefoux and her secretary Floote, in order to find out what's up with her impossible pregnancy and prove her husband's accusations both false and ridiculous.
This book has as much with and charm as its predecessors, with a bit more sweep to the adventure. We get to see how other countries are set up in this alternate history and learn more about some of the secondary characters. It's all a tremendous amount of fun.
