A Betrayal in Winter
by Daniel Abraham

This is the second book of the Long Price Quartet, and it picks up over a decade after the events of A Shadow in Summer. Two of the characters from the previous navel, Otah Machi and Maati Vaupathai, become embroiled in the murder and intrigue around the struggle to determine the next ruler of Otah's home city. The plot is filled with machinations and a doomed love triangle. Otah and Maati make some surprising choices, and their respective power and roles in the world shift dramatically.
Abaraham's world-building continues to be very good, and I found this book's plot to be even more compelling than that of its predecessor. The characters were deeper and more interesting as well.
