by Ellis Peters
This is the eleventh Cadfael book and it is indeed an excellent mystery. It's also the first of the series to not include or revolve around an actual murder (although the suspicion of a murder is a major plot point). The story is set in motion when two monks arrive at Cadfael's monastery seeking refuge after their house is destroyed in the ongoing conflict between Stephen and Matilda. However, it soon starts becoming apparent that there is more to these two men and three different plot threads emerge and intertwine to form a very satisfying tale.
