Book Review
Oct. 17th, 2015 02:35 pmThe Cambridge Companion to the Organ
edited by Nicholas Thistlethwaite, Geoffrey Webber
This book struck a nice balance between looking at the historical development of the organ as an instrument and examining the music written for it over the centuries. The authors of the chapters on the music also did a great job of exploring the relationship between developments in organ construction and developments in organ music. My only complaint is that contemporary organ music gets very short schrift.
