by Jerome Roche
This short book about the late Renaissance composer Orlando Lassus provided an excellent sense of where Lassus fits into music history, and how his music relates to that of the composers who came before and after him. His life and work also showed how cosmopolitan musicians in Renaissance Europe could be. I wish that Roche had given a little more detail about Lassus' life, but I did really appreciate the way he described Lassus' music.
