by Ellis Peters
This is the fourth Cadfael mystery, and it was one of the best so far. I love the way Peters often uses the murder as a setup for the rest of the plot, rather than the other way around. The story in St. Peter's Fair is much bigger than that of a murder and its solution. The action takes place over the course of a big fair held at Cadfael's abbey, which brings in merchants and buyers from all over. This particular story had a lot more intrigue in it than the previous books, so I won't go into the plot so as not to spoil things. Even though I mostly figured things out well before the end, I still enjoyed the story right up through the end. It's intricate and has a lot going on, making for a delightful read.
