Spirit's End
by Rachel Aaron

This is the final book in the Eli Monpress series, and it brings everything to a satisfying conclusion. I very much enjoyed finding out what's really been going on with the world and everything in it. The stakes turned out to be very high, and the solutions both very clever and very risky, which made for an exciting story. It was all such great fun that I now get to experience the dichotomy of being entirely satisfied with the ending yet sad that it is all over. I don't want to get much more specific than that for fear of spoiling too much about both this book and the whole series.
Other things I liked about both the book and the series:

The lack of romance. I enjoy a good romance now and then, but I don't need it in every book I read. It was nice to have a story that didn't need romance to drive anything. I especially liked the fact that Aaron avoided it even though Eli and Miranda could have easily been paired up. Seeing a different option played out was refreshing.

The themes of self-determination and free will. Nico's character development and the growth of her ability to control her demon nature was the best and most satisfying expression of these themes. Eli's arc also dealt with the themes in a nice way.

The Heart of War. Best magical sword ever. I never got tired of seeing it in action.

Interesting world building. Aaron has come up with a really interesting place. I truly enjoyed finding out all the secrets - I never felt disappointed with them.
