This nice biography is a good introduction to Bellini's life and work. He died rather young - before the age of 35 - but luckily not before he had written three great operas: Norma, La Sonambula, and I Puritani. What I found most interesting was the way Bellini's life was involved with the business of opera in the early 19th century, and the ways Bellini maneuvered through it in order to make money and a name for himself.
