Mmmm, new computer smell
Aug. 16th, 2008 08:21 pmEducational discount + tax holiday + new architectural wonder in which to shop = the perfect time to buy a new computer.
Other Kenjari and I had decided to get a new computer this year. The old one still works perfectly well and has always been a sturdy, reliable machine, but it's over four years old and has gotten a lot of use. Plus, having to share one computer between the two of us is starting to get old. Luckily, we waited until the new job situation was all worked out, because it meant that we could buy our new equipment at educational pricing. The Apple store was predictably quite crowded - it is a tax holiday two weeks before the start of a new school year. But they had things running pretty smoothly - waiting in line for a salesperson isn't too bad when doing so guarantees that you will get their full attention. Coincidentally enough, the guy we got is a student at Berklee.
I'm typing this on the old computer, though. I'm going to set up the wireless tonight and tackle the new computer tomorrow.
Oh, and even though I'm not an actual student, because I was purchasing on an educational discount, I also got a free iPod touch. It's so slim and sleek! I'll work on setting that up tomorrow, too.

ETA: Crap, the old laptop doesn't have an airport card. I'll have to get one installed next week - luckily, they're not too expensive. So I'll get the wireless set up tomorrow with the new computer.
