Mostly about the weekend
Aug. 6th, 2008 09:00 pmOn Friday, we went to see Wall-E a second time. It holds up perfectly well to repeat viewings. The trip also involved a lovely night-time walk back from the Chestnut Hill mall area. When we were going around the reservoir, we saw a tiny bunny hopping about!
On Saturday, Other Kenjari and I drove out to Worcester to go to the Higgins Armory Museum. It's a pretty good collection, mostly European weapons and armor from the late 1400s through the late 1600s, with a small but fascinating section of Asian and African items. It's mostly the private collection of a wealthy industrialist from the earlier part of the 20th century, thus it's a bit eclectic and most of the items are not connected with any significant historical figures. However, the museum has a wealth of information about the development and use of arms and armor. The talks given regularly throughout the day were a bit skewed towards children, but still really informative. The highlight, though, was the longsword combat demo give by the Higgins Armory Sword Guild. Two men did a short combat sequence, then broke it down step by step, then repeated it. It was fascinating, and I have to admit that despite their admonitions, I will indeed be trying this at home (with boffer weapons of course).
