by Alice McDermott
More about character and atmosphere than plot, this novel is about the adults of an extended family as seen through the eyes of three siblings. Exquisitely written, this book is a perfect rendering of the shape and feel of childhood memories as seen through the perspective of adulthood. McDermott evokes a very particular time and place with astounding clarity, too.
