Working with [livejournal.com profile] pantsie and perfroming a concert with her has made me a better pianist, I think. It's increased my learning speed, and my ability to get things up to tempo quickly. I think the challenge of learninging how to accompany and the need to absorb pieces quickly has improved my technical skill, too. These days when I practice, I feel like certain things are easier. My hands are surer, and I retain what I've learned better. This improvement is especially nice since I thought I was past the point at which my playing could take such a noticeable leap forward.

[livejournal.com profile] pantsie and I have started practicing together again. Wheeee! The aforementioned improvements in my playing are going to come in handy because the music we're selecting this time is tending to be harder than the pieces for our first round.

No matter how good I get, I don't think that Debussy will ever be my thing. I play a couple of the preludes, and while I don't plan on giving them up, I've come to realize that they are not my best pieces. I love Debussy's piano music, but somehow it just doesn't mesh well with my style and abilities. When it comes to that time period, Bartok works much better for me.
