Christmas

Other Kenjari and I spent Christmas with my family, as we always do. We rode down on Saturday with [livejournal.com profile] epilimnion and D and their bunnies. The bunnies got to stay in the basement during the holiday. They were terribly cute and fun to play with. Rabbits apparently make really good pets - clean, non-smelly, easy to take care of, plenty of personality, and ridiculous levels of cuteness.
The Christmas festivities themselves were fine. The new IBS-safe pierogie fillings were delicious, the potato ones especially so. Mom also made a low-fat dairy-free rice pudding that was to die for. The tree was gorgeous, and the present-opening was fun. The gift-giving was dampened for me only by the fact that I had not been feeling particularly inspired this year when it came to picking out presents. Some years I come up with really great ideas for everyone, and some years not so much.
I received some nice gifts, though. Other Kenjari got me the multi-CD changer attachment for our Bose stereo - I had been wanting it for a while. Now I can listen to whole operas without having to get up and change the CD after every act. He also got me a new bathrobe and Tom Waits' new 3-CD set Orphans. It's terrific. [livejournal.com profile] epilimnion and D got us a gift certificate for Zipcar. And conveniently enough, there's a Zipcar right across the street from our building. Now we can take some trips to things outside of the city this spring. I'll get us all set up with it after New Years.
I'm glad to be home, though. I love my family, but for some reason there's nothing like a few days with them all for making me feel like the odd man out, the one who doesn't really belong.
