Sep. 10th, 2006 10:37 pmI've had a nice, relaxed weekend, spent mostly at home being mellow and doing music stuff. This is especially nice since Other Kenjari and I are going to be away for the next three weekends.
I got plenty of piano playing and composing done. Plus,
pantsie and I had a very enjoyable and productive rehearsal this afternoon. I'm getting less and less anxious and more and more excited about our recital plans. The songs I'm writing for her are coming along very well, and I am able to work reasonably quickly, too.
The only bad thing about the weekend was not feeling so good. The red menace really kicked my ass this month. Luckily, it didn't really get in the way of any of the things I wanted to do.
Other Kenjari and I watched a couple of movies, too. My boss loaned me her copy of Songcatcher, a good film about a woman musicologist in the early 1900s who takes a trip to Appalachia and ends up collecting and studying the traditional music of the area. The plot has a lot of conventional Hollywood elements to it, but the treatment of the musicological story is quite good. And the performances heard in the film are great. For a complete contrast, we also watched Ong-Bak, a Thai martial arts film. The plot was thin to the point of negligable, but the fight choreography was quite good. Tony Jaa, the up-and-coming martial artist who stars, is really very impressive.
