The Curse of Chalion
by Lois McMaster Bujold

I immensely enjoyed reading this book. I was in the mood for some classic-style fantasy, and this seemed to fit the bill. It was even better than I thought it would be. I loved the characters - they were appealing and complex. I kept wanting to see more of them and find out more about them, even the villains. The plot was continually interesting and well-balanced between intrigue and action, with some true surprises. I also loved the way Bujold described and built her world - I had absolutely no trouble getting a feel for the place. And her handling of the theology was amazing - she created a completely cohesive, really fascinating spiritual underpinning for her world and was able to weave the explication of it seamlessly into the story.
(This is purposely vague in order to avoid any spoilers. Spoilerific discussion is very welcome in the comments.)
