Now that I've got my stomach back on track and my stress more under control, I've come down with a cold. I limped through work yesterday, but I stayed home today. I'm usually extremely stoic about illness and almost never take a day off, but this time I thought I should take the hint. Plus, I don't want to be sick for the holiday weekend. I'm feeling remarkably better, after twelve hours of sleep. I'm going to spend the rest of the day napping, drinking tea, and reading. Maybe I'll watch a movie later.

In this historical fantasy novel about the Orkney Islands, Marillier imagines what may have happened when the first Norsemen arrived there and encountered the Celtic natives. Woven into this tale is the story of Eyvind, a viking warrior, and his internal conflict between his bond with his blood brother Somerled (who has grown into a ruthless and often cruel man), and his own sense of what is right and honorable. The first half of the novel is a bit slow, but the climax and conclusion are very well done. Wolfskin is not quite as good as Marillier's first three books, but I found it enjoyable reading.
