Movie night, part 2
Apr. 1st, 2006 11:08 pmTonight Other Kenjari and I watched Mirrormask. I liked it, although it was very strange. The visuals are stunning and completely unique. The experience of watching the film was a bit like reading Perdido Street Station in that it is sufficiently strange enough that there was a period of slight disorientation before I adjusted to the oddities and surreality of the world being presented. THe narrative was occasionally a little less fluid than I would have liked, but I did enjoy the dream-like, fairy-tale feel of the story. I thought it did a good job of exploring the state of adolescence, especially the constant shifts and contradictions that arise in one's self-image and relationship to one's parents.
