It's done!
Jan. 8th, 2006 10:12 pmI have finished Under Earth (my large ensemble piece).
epilimnion gave me some good feedback on it, and some great suggestions for a few final improvements. I printed out an original to take to the copy shop tomorrow, so I should be able to pick up bound scores on Tuesday. It will go out to Oregon on Friday, along with the rest of my portfolio updates.
I had some trouble with this piece. It just wasn't easy to write, and there were a lot of points at which I wasn't at all sure of what I was doing, or whether it was going to turn out well. Two of the four movements are in fact rather different from most of my previous work. I even think the last movement is a real departure from my usual style. But I think it turned out to be something quite good in the end, something that represents real artistic progress. I hope the schools I've applied to agree.
