The last couple of days at the Oregon Bach Festival were extremely busy. Saturday was filled with two concerts, the last bunch of readings, and some final partying. It was quite the whirlwind, but I enjoyed myself immensely. The party was at Mei-ling's house - she's one of the graduate students at the University of Oregon. It went into the wee hours of the morning, but I left fairly early because I was tired and wanted to go on the hike planned for Sunday.
On Sunday, everyone who hadn't left yet went to brunch at a wonderful place called Studio One. Then several of us went on a hike up Mt. Pisgah. The weather was perfectfor summertime hiking - sunny and warm without any humidity. The view from the top was gorgeous - we could see all the way to the Pacific Coast Range. Oregon is an amazingly beautiful place.
After the hike, we went to dinner at a very good Indian place, and then I finally had my meeting with Dr. Kyr regarding re-applying to the university. He was completely straightforward with me, and very specific about what I need to do. It's a pretty tall order and I will have to work very hard to get it all done before the application deadline, but I think it is doable. and I'm really glad that I didn't have to wade through any BS to get the information I need. Next week I will start working on finding out what UMKC wants.
I flew home on Monday. Traveling on the fourth was not at all the hassle I thought it would be. My flights were smooth and uneventful - just the way I like them. I even got to see some fireworks from the air as the plane approached Boston. Other Kenjari met me at the airport, took me home, and then took me out for a late dinner at around ten. Well, it didn't feel that late to me, since my body thought it was around seven.
Both Other Kenjari and I took the day off of work yesterday, because I needed an extra day to rest and reset my body clock before plunging back into my regularly scheduled life. We went out to Zaftig's for brunch and then saw Batman Begins, which I really liked. Christian Bale makes an appealingly intense Batman. In fact, the movie is chock-full of good actors giving good performances: Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, Gary Oldman, Rutger Hauer, and Morgan Freeman. Also, There is at least one shot that makes it clear that Christopher Nolan has seen Wings of Desire.
Now I am at work, where I am re-orienting myself and catching up on the various things that piled up while I was gone.
