This was the busiest weekend I've had in a long time. It was really wonderful to get out of the house, after being cooped up for so long due to snow and freezing cold.
[livejournal.com profile] jila and [livejournal.com profile] aquafolius were up in Boston for a visit, and Other Kenjari and I spent Saturday with them, [livejournal.com profile] hca and R. We ate lots of good food, and went to the aquarium. I really like the aquarium, but I must make sure to get there on a weekday morning at some point. I always find that the large quantities of children makes enjoying myself a little harder to do. And the sea otters weren't there anymore. :( Other Kenjari was particularly disappointed about that. They did have a really cool jellyfish exhibit, and the tropical fish are always great.

The Morgesons
by Elizabeth Stoddard

I'm not sure what to make of this novel. It's a 19th century novel about Cassandra Morgeson, a young woman in New England. It covers her coming of age and her establishment of a life for herself that is outside of many of the confines of typical Victorian womanhood. Cassandra is a prickly character, though. I found her somehwat difficult to relate to. And she escapes the confining influences of family, religion, and propriety not so much through informed resistance as through a willful oblivion. It's a short book, and rather spare when it comes to describing or exploring the characters,
