Weekend Update

This was the busiest weekend I've had in a long time. It was really wonderful to get out of the house, after being cooped up for so long due to snow and freezing cold.
jila and aquafolius were up in Boston for a visit, and Other Kenjari and I spent Saturday with them, hca and R. We ate lots of good food, and went to the aquarium. I really like the aquarium, but I must make sure to get there on a weekday morning at some point. I always find that the large quantities of children makes enjoying myself a little harder to do. And the sea otters weren't there anymore. :( Other Kenjari was particularly disappointed about that. They did have a really cool jellyfish exhibit, and the tropical fish are always great.

The Morgesons
by Elizabeth Stoddard

I'm not sure what to make of this novel. It's a 19th century novel about Cassandra Morgeson, a young woman in New England. It covers her coming of age and her establishment of a life for herself that is outside of many of the confines of typical Victorian womanhood. Cassandra is a prickly character, though. I found her somehwat difficult to relate to. And she escapes the confining influences of family, religion, and propriety not so much through informed resistance as through a willful oblivion. It's a short book, and rather spare when it comes to describing or exploring the characters,
