So what have I been up to besides reading books lately? Music, mostly.

I've been spending a lot of time composing. Since the majority of my grad school applications this year are actually reapplications, I'm trying to get some new works done for my portfolio. I'm currently working on a piece for piano called Full Moon Waltz, in which I'm trying to stretch out a bit and do some wilder stuff. I wish it were going faster, but at least I'm pleased with what I'm producing. Next up I'll be seeing if I can resurrect a couple of projects that got put on hold for various reasons and I'll also be starting work on a choral piece.

I've also been practicing piano religiously. [livejournal.com profile] pantsie and I are planning to do another recital next year and I'm learning material as fast as I can.

Now that I have a binding machine and the necessary supplies, I'm sending out a lot more of my stuff to calls for scores and competitions. These things can be crap shoots, but they do at least get your name and music in front of performers and conductors.

Other Kenjari and I went to the Boston Cecilia concert last night and had a great time. I didn't know any of Poulenc's music before, but I was delighted to discover it. Boston Cecilia was terrific - they have such a beautiful sound. The guest soloist, baritone Christopheren Nomura, was terrific. His voice was wonderful and he was an amazingly communicative performer. I had gone to see [livejournal.com profile] pantsie, but I hadn't known that [livejournal.com profile] thomascantor is in the group, too.
