They did it! They did it! The Red Sox have worked a miracle, and done the impossible. Less than a week ago, no one thought this would happen. No. One. But it did!
I am sitting here at work, barely able to concentrate, with a big grin on my face.

It's tough being a Red Sox fan, even a relatively new one. I spent the last three innings wringing my hands and biting my nails, despite the Sox' 7 run lead. I was afraid that the Yankees would pull some trick of magic (dark, evil magic). But that was happily not to be.

Johnny Damon and David Ortiz are practically gods. And Curt Schilling is my new hero. And Derek Lowe is just beyond wonderful.

I called [livejournal.com profile] epilimnion right after the game. I knew she'd be up. We shared our joy and amazement. Other Kenjari and I listened to the cheering erupting through the neighborhood. And listened, and listened for more than an hour. I broke out the good blackberry brandy. We had a good time watching the post-game commentary and interviews. Joe Torre looked as if he had just seen his puppy get run over by a semi. Alex Rodriguez looked like he was going to bawl. And the Yankees fans looked miserable. Happily, Terry Francona finally no longer looks as if he has a giant ulcer. The players themselves looked profoundly joyous, if slightly dazed.

And just in case anyone didn't realize how big this is, my mother, who doesn't care the least bit about any team sport, let alone baseball, called this morning to express congratulations to Boston.

Wooooo-hooooo!!! Keep it coming, Red Sox!
