Baseball Auguries
Mar. 28th, 2004 11:04 pmI have never in my life been anything even resembling a sports fan. However, I noticed that after I moved to the other side of the Charles, out of Somerville and into Boston proper, this all started to change. I have become a bit of a Red Sox fan. I guess at first my interest in baseball was self-defense. When you ride the B trains on the green line, you need to be aware of when the home games are, because then the trains become incredibly crowded, mostly with people who are not the most experienced riders of public transportation. But somewhere along the way, I think I actually developed an affection for the Red Sox, and, by extension, a mild interest in baseball in general. Maybe it's something in the Boston drinking water, or the air south of Fenway park. Last year, I even found myself watching snippets of some of the games.
So now that I have allowed baseball and the Red Sox a corner of my brain, I find it quite interesting that the first home game of the season will be against the Baltimore Orioles. And this game will be played the day after I expect to hear from my (now) first choice school, Peabody Conservatory. Which is in Baltimore. And baseball did come up in the course of one of the interviews I had down there, as part of the exchange of pleasantries. Sign from some higher power? I'd like to think so.
