We made it to Oregon safe and sound yesterday. Unfortunately, due to flight delays and such, it took us 17 hours to get to Eugene. Which means I was up for 21 hours straight. I am still rather tired, but having a good time nonetheless.
Today was registration, orientation, and the first gamelan session. I haven't had much experience with Balinese, but my Javanese playing skills are coming in handy. It's so much fun! I'm also going to be writing a short piece for gamelan as part of my participation in the composers symposium. It's the best possible way of combining my composition with my interest in ethnomusicology.
Tonight we get to go to a performance of Brahms' German Requiem, a piece I admire very much but have never heard live. Then I will try to get to bed early so that I have plenty of energy for the coming week.
