by Ian McEwen
This intense, wonderfully written novel is about Joe Rose, a very rational science writer, whose life and relationships start to unravel when he becomes the object of another man's delusional, obsessive love. The story and characters are quite compelling, and so is the exploration of love intertwined with the narrative. McEwen takes a fascinating look at the way in which what we imagine about and between ourselves and our romantic partners has just as much effect on the dynamics of these relationships as what happens in real life.
