Friday thoughts
Feb. 27th, 2004 08:12 pmNo more decision letters so far. All this tense waiting is really starting to wear on my nerves. I've finally thought through what I should do in all possible outcomes, and now I just want to get on with it. The suspense is very unpleasant.
My first choice is the University of Chicago. If I get in, I will go, regardless of whether or not I am accepted to the other two schools.
Obviously, if I only get into one school, I will go there.
If it comes down to a decision between Peabody and Northwestern, I will go to Peabody. Much as I prefer chicago to Balitmore, Peabody is truly the better school. Their composition faculty is much more stable. They also do a lot more for their composers: they have better facilities, and they are a lot more helpful in terms of helping students find people to perform their pieces. And getting the best possible degree from the best possible school is what this is all about, after all, not living in the coolest city.
The only possibility I have not contemplated is rejection across the board. Partly becuase that is just too horrible. Also, at the risk of sounding conceited, I just don't think it's that likely. My grades were good in both undergrad and while getting my masters. My music is quite good, even if I do say so myself. I got good recommendations. All my auditions and interviews went very well. If all of that doesn't get me an acceptance, I'm not sure what else to do.
On a less anxious note, Einsturzende Neubauten came out with a new CD today, Perpetuum Mobile. It's very good. They seem to have developed a lighter, more transparent sound over the years. They've become less noisy, and more elegant.
