Other Kenjari and I caught an early matinee of "Coffee and Cigarettes", the new film by Jim Jarmusch. Man, it was good. It's a series of short segments in which two or three people interact over coffee and cigarrettes, shot in black and white, and glorious in its simplicity. There is a lot of subtle humor in it, too, not just in what the people say but in the way some of the conversational threads reappear at different points. One of the funniest bits, at least for me, was the one entitled "Twins", in which Cinque and Joie Lee are at a table and the waiter (Steve Buscemi) comes over and starts talking with them: "Are you brother and sister? Wait, are you twins?". This sort of thing has happened to epilimnion and I countless times, and it was hilarious. Although maybe it's funnier if you're actually a twin, since I think I laughed harder and longer than anyone else in the theater. I also loved the segment with Iggy Pop and Tom Waits, being a huge Tom Waits fan.
