The Prestige
by Christopher Priest

This book uses the compelling story of two rival stage magicians in late-Victorian England to explore themes about secrets, deception, and what is revealed versus what is concealed. There's a lot going on in this novel, but any more detail would require lots of spoilers. I found it quite riveting and fascinating, and the plot and secrets kept me guessing right up to the end. I highly recommend it. Plus, a film version is coming out in October.

Have you read _Strange and Norrell_? How does it compare?

Hollywood just loves those magicians (well, this year at least)!

We saw The Illusionist last night (I finished The Prestige while waiting for it to start, coincidentally enough). I really, really liked it.

Totally different. Much less actual magic, much more stage magic, and completely different period. But comparable in that both are High Class.
