Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] epilimnion and I went out and got all girly.

Epilimnion and I went out yesterday for a full afternoon and evening of girly shopping. First, we made an abortive attempt to shop at the Victoria's Secret in the Copley Plaza. I've had good shopping experiences there the times I went on weekday mornings. But yesterday it was very crowded. And they didn't have any bras in our size in any of the good colors (only beige and white). Plus, when we asked one of the sales people if they had any such items, we were told that they had a new shipment in the back but wouldn't be putting it out until later in the week. But we were going to buy things right then. I was annoyed, but having worked retail, I think there's a good possibility that this was due to some stupid corporate policy handed down from headquarters. So we bought nothing there and decided to try the other Victoria's Secret stores in Boston.
But first, we headed down Newbury street to the Fluevog store to get some shoes. We each got a pair of wicked cute mary janes: Epilimnion got a high-heeled style, and I got a flat style. And I was lucky enough to get one of the last pairs of the smaller-sized styles. Shoe manufacturers are starting to only go as small as a size 6 (I need a 5 or sometimes a 5 and a half). I see myself having to start buying larger children's shoes sometime in the next decade. But I'm okay with that. They make really great mary janes and t-strap styles for little girls.
Before more shopping, we stopped at the Trident cafe for a smoothie. It was nearly 90 degrees in Boston yesterday, and we were exceedingly thirsty. As we discovered, they make a fantastic chocolate-banana soymilk smoothie. Mmmmmmmm.
After browsing in Anthroplogie for bit, but buying nothing, we headed to Faneuil Hall to try their Victoria's Secret. Oddly enough, despite Quincy Market being packed with tourists, the stores were not at all crowded. Most of the people there seemed more interested in strolling than shopping. So we had much better luck, finding what we had come for, and even trying on some bras for fun, including the amusing demonstration of Why Kenjari Should Not Wear a Push-Up Bra.
We finished our girly shopping extravaganza with a trip to Ann Taylor. I splurged on a dress I don't actually need for anything: a lovely black dress that sits comfortably on the border between casual and dressy. Good for going out, good for work (although I will need to wear it with a jacket there, due to the zealous air conditioning).
Finally, we finished up with dinner in the North End, at Al Dente. And no wait, since we got there a little on the early side. and for dessert, cookies from Modern's (they are much better then Mike's).
I don't get that girly very often, but it can be a lot of fun.

Other Kenjari and I were going to go to the Arnold Arboretum this afternoon for Lilac Day, but it's cloudy and raining. Hopefully we''l be able to go next weekend. I wonder how long lilacs stay in bloom. At least a week, I hope.
