Composer Dana Brayton died suddenly on Monday. I wasn't particularly close with him, but I had two classes with him at Boston Conservatory: ear training and orchestration. The orchestration class was good - I learned some useful stuff from him. Nice guy, too - he reminded me of a cross between John Malkovich and Elton John.
