by Arturo Perez-Reverte
This is the second book in the Captain Alatriste series, and I enjoyed it as much as I did the first one. Perez-Reverte once again does a beautiful job evoking the atmosphere of 17th century Spain. This time our heroes get to tangle with the Inquisition, and the story is thus heavier on the intrigue than the swordfighting. It lets us see a slightly different side of Alatriste, his friends, and his enemies.
