All the King's Men
by Robert Penn Warren
I thought a book about politics and corruption in Depression-era Louisiana would be rather timely and appropriate with the presidential campaign well under way. ;)
In all seriousness, though, I really enjoyed this book - a lot more than I thought I would. I was afraid it would be on the dry or stuffy side. Instead, I found it incredibly engrossing, with a plot that was both dramatic and subtle. Warren creates some truly memorable characters and then gives a beautifully detailed sense of both their inner and outer lives.
